DISTRICT RALLY AND SPORTS MEETING NOTES FROM THE VARIOUS TROOPS (Contributed) A A special committee has been working’ for some time oil the task of arranging: a big Scout and Cub field day. The arrangements have now been completed., and all Troops are looking forward teC the big day oil Saturday, 4th April. The programme commences , with’ a . march from the Church Steps to the Botanical Reserve, where, after the : breaking of the flag, all troops- will bo inspected by the Commissioner (Dr; W.. D. S. Johnston) and others of. thetexecutive committee. After this inspection the troops will participate in vau'ious sports and competitions, while--one or two of the troops will give demonstra- . tions of Scout work and physical training. . - '..;. ~ i,U It is hoped to have a large attendance of .the general public present to show their interest in the splendid work being carried out by the Scout movements.

PIONEER TROOP ■ ■ - . . i The active roll strength of the Troop lias increased considerably during the oast few months, and wo now have 20 boys on the roll, all of whom are showing a keen interest in the work.' Owing to unavoidable circumstances we were unable to hold a camp at 'Christmas time, bilt . are how busily preparing f<j>r an Easter camp, which we intend holding at Aniseed Valley. If the. present keenness is maintained several of the boys should be able to pass a; number of their out-door tests during .the few days we will have under canvas; During the past week or two the boys have been getting very keen on the forthcoming rally, and have been practising their knotting and first aid work; they are-becoming very proficient at these and should be able to give a good account of themselves on the day) Don’t forget that we always have room for new recruits/ so come along if you .are able and join us in our jolly movements'-; lit is great fpn and on top of this you lear nsome very useful things, such as cooking/ first aid, signalling and so on.’ ' - ~ . 1 ST. JOSEPH’S TROOP Since the beginning of the year, we have been unfortunate in losing_PatrolI.eader T. Sherlock and 2nd R. Sherlock. This meant that a new P.L. had to be appointed, Tony Sannazzaro receiving the honour. It was decided to - leave the appointment of a new 2nd till a later date. During February a Scout sports meeting was held at Richmond. The Waimea Troop were successful in winning the Shield, with Anzacs second and ourselves third. .. ; . /

We have been fortunate in' securing the services of Mr Mahoney and Mr Mcßride, who are teaching us mapping ■ n nd macrame work respectively. We •' hope to have many more visit's fromthese gentlemen, who are showing great interest in each individual boy. P.L. McGuire lias now been appointed to Troop Leader, and his position a§ P.L, has Been taken by Bill Day. , V Four new boys have joined up recently—Dan Harley, Doug. Newport, John Carmine and Joe Peroni. To these lads we offer a hearty welcome, and sincerely, hope they will, have a long and Happy time with us. . During the week-end the Parrakeet Patron held/a camp at. the Glen and made (good use of -a . bach kindly lent to. them by Mr Barry. - A very enjoyable tithe was spent by all, and the other patrons are eager-ly-looking-forward to their, turn. . The'patrol competition is now going in full swing with the Penguins leading with 80 marks, clbsely followed by the Kangaroo, with 79. ; . IRON DUKE SEA SCOUTS After a very successful camp held,for at week at Christmas at Ngaio Bay/' We are now settling down for another year of Scout work, t Although the weather has not altogether been suitable for boating we had endeavoured to get opt as much as possible, and the competition for the Scott Cup, for general- proficiency in' boat work, will Be Held At an early date. In addition, general instruction in signalling, first aid ilrid seamanship is being continued'with...-.; . The prospective crews' for the ahiliial Sea Scout Regatta at Wellington are now training hard. The races are rowed on Easter Saturday. In all prp'i Lability sailing races in addition to row/ ing races will be held, and this will add greatly to the interest of the regatta,)'/ Several lads have joined the troop lately, but we can do with a few more' 1 to bring our membership up to full strength. : ’.(I
