WHITE PAPER APPROVED
BIG MAJORITY IN THE COMMONS (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copy right; LONDON, Uth March. In the House of Commons the Labour no-confidence amendment was defeated by 378 to 155, and the motion approving the White Paper was carried by 37i votes to 153. When the debate was resumed, Mr D. Lloyd George (Labour), said that France was not' in a position to point the finger of scorn at Gcrmamv on the ground, of treaty breaking. France for twelve years had refused to carry out her undertaking to disarm, and even after the Locarno Treaty had increased her arms yearly. If Herr Hit W’s declaration resulted in negotiations ending in twenty-five years’ peace in Europe, the defence problem would he altered. Mr Herbert Morrison (Labour), said that the Labour Party would vote unitedly against the Government because it disagreed with, and regretted and condemned, its whole foreign policy. Mr Neville Chamberlain, Chancellor of the Exchequer, disagreed that events over (lie week-end had changed tie, situation regarding defence. The Government intended to press forward its plans. The idea of a Minister of Munitions had not been excluded.
