Members of the ThoTndon Bowling Club recently gathered at their clubhouse to farewell Dr. C. F. Pattie, who is retiring from medical oraetice and taking .up his residence permanently in tlie Nelson district (reports “The Post”). The president or the club, Mr M. J. Casey, referred to Dr. Pattie’s long connection with the club, of nearly a quarter of a century, and expressed the real regret of members, not only as howlers, hut as citizens, that Dr. Pattie was leaving Wellington, for he was a man of wide interests quite apart from his interest and influence in sport. On behalf of the members the president presented Dr. Pattie with a rug and a. case of pipes. Dr. Pattie feelingly replied. Mr C. J. McKenzie. Under-Secretarv of the Public Works Department, who has been a patient in a private hospitai in Greymouth for some time, is showing considerable improvement, although he is still confined to his bed. Mr John Walton Beanland, J.P., the new Mayor of Christchurch, has been on the Christchurch City Council since 1913 and on the Christchurch Drainage Board for a period almost. as long. He also has to his record service on the Christchurch Tramway Board, and he lias been deputy-mayor for more than one term. He is one of the prominent building contractors in the city. Mr Beanland polled very well in the lastmunicipal elections and was elected deputy-mayor\bv tlie council which was returned last May.
