VANGUARD STREET DITCH

EXTENSION OF COVERING In a letter to the City Council meeting last evening the manager of Messrs Kirkpatrick and Co. made reference to the fact that service drainage which escaped into the Vanguard street ditch was backed up past the factory in the ditch by spring tides, leaving a sediment which caused a nuisance. It was suggested that the covering to the ditch be extended past the jam factory. The Mayor (Mr G. L. Page) said it was proposed to make it a pressure sewer so that the drainage could be forcer] out to sea. It was decided that the question of covering the ditch be referred to the Engineer to confer with the manager ofMessrs Kirkpatrick’s Ltd.
