PUBLIC WORKS ADMINISTRATION
ASSISTANCE TOR MINISTER FOUR CO-OPTED MEMBERS (By Telegraph-'-Press Association) WELLINGTON. This Day. In his 'administration of the Public Works Department, the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) will have associated -with him. four coopted members. Mr Semple announced yesterday that the members would be Mr J. iiodgcns (Palmerston), Mr E. P. Meaclicn (Wairau). Mr J. O’Rricn (Westland), ami Mr IT. E. Herring (Mid-Canterbury). Mr Semple said that be was sure the four members would prove a tower of strength to him and the Public Works Department in iho development work ahead. Not*only were they practical men. but they bad a sound technical knowledge ns well. Mr liodgcns lias been engaged as a builder and contractor since 1918, and, in addition, has- had a long experience of local body work. Tin has been a member of the Palmerston North City Council since 1919, and is now Deputy Mayor. He has also boon a member of the Oroua Power Board for ten years. Mr Meaeben is a carpenter and bridge builder. lie served with the New Zealand Enginers at the f’’ont for four and n half years. Mr Meaeben has also made a close study of transport matters: Mr O’Brien lias a lifetime experience of general construction work and minbofh in > Australia and New Zealand. He has also made a special study of electrical engineering. Mr Herring is a chartered electrical engineer, and for a number of years was employed by the Education Department as an instructor in engineering
