BOARD’S MONTHLY MEETING STATISTICAL REPORT FOR FEBRUARY SUPPLIES FOR 1936-37 The monthly meeting erf the Nelson Hospital Board yesterday afternoon was attended by Major R. Dagger (chairman), Mesdames Watson and Moffat I, Messrs N. McConochie, F. W. Gibbs, E. Page, J. Fitz-Gerald, 11. Tunnicliffe and A. A. Kenyon. Accounts amounting to £2264 Is 2d were passed for payment. The Matron (Miss Brown) was granted leave to attend the annual conference of hospital matrons at Christchurch and £5 was advanced towards expenses. The Master of the Alexandra Home (Mr A. Hunter) submitted his report for the month. Tlie Relieving Officer (Mr 11. Kidson) detailed his work during the month of February. TENDERS The Board accepted the following tenders for supplies for the next twelve months: — Bread for Nelson Hospital: W. L. N. Forster and Ansticc and Co., month about. Bread for Alexandra- Home: Croucher and Sons and R. Marshall, month about. Meat for Hospital: L. N. Ruffell. Meat for Alexandra Home: K. Bird. Indigent Funerals: McPherson and Day. The statistical report- for the month of February was as follows : In-patients : Remaining from previous month, 42 men, 35 women, 16 children, total 93; admissions during during month, 52 men, 61 women, 12 children, total 125; total treated, 94 men, 96 women, 28 children, total 218; discharged during month, 55 men, 57 women, 13 children, total 125; died during month, 2 men, 2 women, total 4; remaining at end of month, 37 men, 37 women, 15 children, total 89. ■ Nature of cases treated during month i Medical, 44 men, 36 women, 10 children, total 90; surgical, 44 men, 32 women, 13 children, total 89; maternity, 25 women; tuberculosis, 3 men, 1 woman, total, 4; other infectious diseases, 1 man, 5 children, total 6; chronic, 2 men, 2 women, total 4. Totals, 94 men, 96 women, 28 children, grand total 218. Operations: No. under general anaesthetic, 56; No. under local anaesthetic, 20. Consultations, 1. Out-patients: No. of cases, general 78, maternity 43, total 121; No. of attendances, general 126, maternity 51, total 177.
Massage Department: No. of cases, in-patients 13, out-patients 16, total 29 ; No. of attendances, in-patients 92, outpatients 163, total 255. X-Ray Department: No. of attendances, 1 in-patients, 55, out-patients 23, total 78... . Bacteriological Department: No. of examinations, - in-patients 367, outpatients 7 10, practitioners’ patients 26, total 403. No. of patients in Hospital over two months, 23.
The Hospital Boards’ Association advised that it recommended _no change in the present system of medical examination by unemployed. (A suggestion was recently made by the North Canterbury Board that the Unemployment authorities arrange for the examinations to bo made outside the hospitals on account of the extra work created for the hospital medical officers). Tlie chairman, pointed out that the. Nelson Board had considered it an advantage to have the examinations made by (he hospital doctors in view of tlie board’s interest in the relief of disA request by the Department for details of proposed capital expenditure for 1936-37, was referred to the Town Committee to report. ESTIMATES FOR 1936-37 The preparation of the estimates for the next financial year was referred to the Town Committee for submission to the next meeting of the board for consideration. It was decided to hold the statutory meeting for that purpose at 10 a.m. on Bth April, which will be the date of the monthly meeting. ,
