OPENING OF WINTER SEASON

The first of the series of the weekly open tournaments for the 1930 season, was played last evening on the Jubilee howling green, when probably the most keenly contested tournament ever witnessed on the green took place. Tt was very noticablc the large percentage of young players taking part and they ali played excellent bowls. The green was filled to capacity and at the end of the third game, every rink had been defeated, but rinks skipped hv Kitchingman, Persico, Dee, Masefield, Rudman and Edwards lmd all won two games. After two eliminating rounds Persico, with Forsyth, Wright and Peronne, met Edwards, with Russell, Merlino and De Lorenzo in the final, which Persico won by a narrow margin.
