SOUTH AFRICAN IRON AND STEEL MARKET
A FIVE YEAR AGREEMENT (British Official Wireless) RUGBY', 6th February. A new development in the interim period of industrial relations is marked Dy an announcement that an agreement for a period of five years was signed in London yesterday afternoon between the .South African Iron and Steel Corporation of Pretoria, representing iron and steel producers of South Atriean, International Iron and Steel Cartel and the British Iron and Steel Federation whereby the requirements of South Africa are secured to South African producers fto the (extent 'to which they can meet these demands. The importation of the balance will be controlled by the British Iron and Steel Federation and the Cartel is to be regulated in a manner to ensure the most suitable source of supply. Prices will be stabilised at an economic level so calculated as to stimulate the consumption of iron and steel in the South African market, the development of which, by a policy of constructive co-operation, is one of the principal 'objects of the agreement.
