RIFLE SHOOTING

NELSON ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP AND HANDICAP MEETING AT BLENHEIM The annual meeting of the Nelson Rifle Association took place at Motueka on Saturday (Ist February)., when representatives from the Nelson. Woodstock, Owen Junction, Waimea, Tadjiiov, Korere and Motueka clubs competed. Conditions for the day’s shoot were regarded as very satisfactory and visibility was also good. A great deal of enthusiasm was displayed in the various matches by the 34 riflemen who competed. Owing to darkness it was found impossible to complete the final shoot off by the 12 highest scorers. The championships will be finalised on a date to be arranged by the Nelson Title Association.

At the close of the day, Mr Frank Sharland (president of the association) thanked all members for the interest they had displayed in the competitions, and especially those, who had been enthusiastic enough to travel long distances to participate. Mention was made of the splendid hospitality extended to the visitors by the Motueka Defence Rifle Club, which was much appreciated by all. Mr Sharland expressed pleasure at seeing so many young members taking part in the competitions, and stated that he hoped that the number would still be increased next year.

The Rev. Canon G. A. Crosman (president, Motueka Club) in a few well-chosen words, thanked Mr Sharland for the kindly sentiments expressed by him.
