BRITAIN AND EGYPT OPENING OF CONVERSATIONS PREPARATIONS AT CAIRO (British Official Wireleßa) (Received 3rd February, 11.25 a.in.) RUGBY, Ist February. Preparations are being made at Cairo for the opening of conversations between the Egyptian delegation and the British High Commissioner, Sir Miles Lampson, with a view to producing a draft treaty of alliance and providing a settlement of four points which were reserved when the British Protectorate over Egypt, which was declared in 1914, terminated in 1922. when the Sultan was proclaimed King. These lour points relate to Imperial Communications, including vlie Suez Canal, the defence of Egypt from ex= temal aggression, and protection of foreign interests, including the minority position of the Sudan. In tlie reply of the British Govern-

ment to the United Front’s recent request for opening of negotiations, it was indicated that it would be of advantage to discuss in the first place future military arrangements which would form the basis of a treaty.
