RETURNING PROSPERITY

PAST YEAR IN VICTORIA FACTORIES MUCH BUSIER A general industrial improvement brought renewed prosperity to Victoria iu 1935. The year 1934 had the advantage of the fill in given by the celebration of the State’s centenary, but comparisons are still favourable to 1935. The gains are more widely spread. The rural industries have progressed ns well as the urban.

Factories in general are increasing their outputs under the pressure of a strong buying demand, and quite a number of them are well behind with their deliveries, notwithstanding increases to plant and equipment, additions to the number of employees and overtime and double shift working. An indication of the movement is afforded by production statistics of a number of factories. They show approximate increases for boots of 10 per cent., and for furniture of 15 per "cent., with some factories doing double the previous year’s output. Woollen mills and clothing factories report much increased activities.
