ENGLISH LEGAL PROCEDURE

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SPEEDING UP (United rreßß Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 31st January. Drastic recommendations for accelerating English legal procedure are contained in the report of the Royal Commission on the dispatch of business at Common Law. Some are certain to cause acute division of opinion in the legal profession, notably the appointment of ii well-paid and responsible manager to supervise the business of the King’s Beach Division, which recommendation lias already been strongly opposed bv the Lord Chief Justice, who fixed the retiring age at 72 for Judges. Lord Hanworth, one of the signatories to the report, even doubts the wisdom of an age limit for Judges. The report also suggests that the rules should be amended to admit of the use of air mail in the service and return of documents from abroad.
