RENE RAY HAS UNIQUE RECORD Screen fame has been won by Rene Ray. a 24-vcar-old English actress, as the result of her performance in the vole of the makl-of-all-work ’Stasia in “The Passing of the Third Floor Back.”

Miss Ray appeared in 30 pictures, many of them unimportant, before she obtained her first real chance in “The Passing of the Third Floor Back,” which is listed as the next attraction for the Majestic. The-. London reception ot the picture was such that the actress was immediately -signed by Gaumont-British for starring roles.

“I stil find it rather difficult to believe that 1 have at last reached the big picture class,” said Rene Ray. “I have been struggling for seven years, and it was entirely due to my stage appearance, in .“The Dominant Sexy that I got my big opportunity. I learned a lc/t from this production. “From having to run around after screen parts, I suddenly found myself being asked to sign contracts! There were three offers from Hollywood—from three of the biggest studios, too —and Gaumont-British asked me to make a test for the part of ’Stasia in “The Passing of the Third Floor Back.”

“I turned down those Hollywood offers because I did not feel that it was to my advantage to go there before 1 had really made good in my ow n country.”
