VISITORS’ GOOD POSITION

M.C.C. AT MARTON HOME TEAM FAILS (By Telegraph—Press Association] MARTON, 31st January. In dull weather, which later yielded to brilliant sunshine, the M.C.C. played Rangitikei, the tourists winning the toss and having the first use of a good wicket. The first innings yielded 248 runs and occupied three and three-quar-ter hours. The Rangitikei batsmen failed, the dismissal of T. Lowry, exNew Zealand skipper, Lodder, Cameron and J. Marshall being disastrous, as it was unexpected. The innings lasted only 77 minutes. Lyttelton, the acting-skipper, sportingly decided not to force a follow-on, and at stumps, after 20 minutes’ play, M.C.C. had lost two wickets for 25 runs.

The star performer of the day for Rangitikei was H. MiJ'hsall, who bowled 22 overs for seven wickets and hatted 22 minutes for top score. He is only 18 years, and shows great promise. He bowls a medium-pace, immaculate length, and turns the ball both ways. The fall of wickets best illustrates the Rangitikei collapse —- 1 for 0, two for 3, three for 4, four for (5, five for 13. six for 18, seven for 32, eight for 30, nine for 45.

Langridge played a sterling knock for Marylebone, being tbe ninth wicket to fall, and seeing the score for 86 t.o 248. He batted for 130 minutes ■and hit a sixer and nine fours.
