HE REHEARSED HIS FUNERAL
One of the. queerest buildings in England will shortly disappear. It is llolnost Mausoleum, in Dorset, built -ast century by an eccentric M.l’. 15 years before'his death. John Samuel Hanley Sawbridgc ErieDrax erected Ids tomb inside the mausoleum, and held a rehearsal of his funeral before he died ! The rehearsal was an erric aft air. Drax watched from a bedroom* window, and afterwards scolded (lie bearers for jogging the dummy body in. the coffin ! It stands iu an old churchyard oil the Don heater to Sherborne road, and if has been criticised as unsightly by thousands of motorists and sightseers. Ihe case containing Mr Drax s coffin lias been taken away and the coffin has been buried immediately below. Alter he ceased to be an M.l’., Mr Drax lived in seclusion at liolncst Park, where lie had a collodion of pictures reputed to have cost- £IOO.OOO. lie was called the “Silent member of tlie House of Commons.'' It was said that the only “speech” lie made during his forty years in the House was his request to the Speaker that a window might be closed.
