APPRECIATION OF A SPLENDID ROADMAP

(To the Editor) Sir.—May I through your columns, as a member of the Nelson Automobile Association express my thanks to the secretary for the splendid road map of the South Island received yesterday, and at the same time to pay a tribute to the excellence of the publication. It provides drivers with just the details they require, and great credit is due to the draughtsman. Mr C. W. Tait, of Christchurch, both for the carefully drawn maps and the clever way in which R uch a variety of information is graphically expressed. For example, there is shown the several types of existing roads, the location of outlying petrol stations, of fords and bridges, of camping grounds and reserves, scenic spots, etc. Included are maps of the northern Sounds, plans of Christchurch and Dunedin and a full list of the colour bands in use for -the various routes. The printing is distinct and mileage of sections is shown in red. The compilation was the work of the S.I. Motor Union and the get-up is tiptop and a credit to the printers, Andrews, Baty and Co. Ltd., Christchurch. This further enterprise on the part of the local Association will undoubtedly be much appreciated -by members. —I am, etc., : R. V. KNAPP. Nelson, 14th January.
