JUNIOR CRICKET

TAIIUNA DEFEAT OLD BOYS A feature of the Tahuna-Old Boys game at the Park was the keen fielding of both teams, a number of catches being taken that \vould have done credit to any representative team. Les. Taylor (Tahuna) and S. Cook (Old Boy's) brought off two wonderful catches. Batting first Old Boys were early in troublo having three good wickets down for 4 runs. However F. Johnston (22) and M. Talbot (32) and Richards (11) all batted well to take the total to 86 when the last wicket fell. Tahuna’s early batsmen were very cautious against accurate bowling and snappy fielding and it was not before five wickets had fallen that the Old Boys score had been passed. From then on several batsmen used the long handle to advantage and stumps Tahuna’s total showed at 180 for nine wickets. The chief scorers were J. Gaskell 39, T. Reed 38 retired. T. McDonald 24, R. Veysey 16, G. McLaren 15 retired, and G. Gates 11. Bowling for Old Boys, Hargreaves took one for 6, Cobden three for 21 (11 overs), Talbot one for 11 (11 overs), Richards one for 22, Green one for 35. For Tahuna: Gates took five for 22 (14 overs), Ilobern four for 24, and Reed one for 18.
