WAR PORTRAITS
(By Air Alail—From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, 19th December. Iu the last few years death has been busy amongst the most famous big personalities of the Great War, so there is additional interest in the West Emi exhibition now being held by Air 11. A. Olivier whose paintings inciude the portraits of many' of these historic figures. Amongst his distinguished sitters were 'the late King Albert of Belgium, EieldAtarshal E’ari Haig, Marshal Foch, Lord Balfour, Lloyd George and old Ciemeiiceau. Of all these the sole survivor is L.G., and even ho has changed a good deal in appearance during the last 17 years. Walking round the gallery, and looking at these portraits, is like rolling back a decade or two of life. Air Olivier calls his show “a premature posthumous’’ one, but this title has something of the Delphic oracle’s double meaning about it. One is left to guess, and perhaps guess wrongly.
