MACHINES FLY ROUTE PALMERSTON NORTH»DUNEDIN OFFICIAL OPENING NEXT WEEK (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Though the official opening of the trunk air service between Palmerston North and Dunedin is not till next Wednesday, De Havilland expresses of Union Airways will be flying over the route to timetable from to-day when one of the machines will he flown to Palmerston North. At the scheduled time on Friday it will leave Palmerston North for the South and another machine win leave Christchurch for the north. The north-bound machine cannot leave Dunedin, the southern terminus of the line, on Friday, because the temporary shelter there to be used till the hangar is completed is not quite ready. ARRANGEMENTS FOR OPENING CEREMONY WELLINGTON. This Day. The official opening of the Union Airways trunk service takes place at Palmerston North on 15th January when an official flight will be made from Dunedin to Palmerston North with stpps at Christchurch, and Blenheim. Three De Havilland 86 machines will be christened at a function arranged by the Mayor and councillors of Palmerston North and the Manawatu Aero Olub. The christening will lie done by the Postmaster-General, the Hon. F. Jones. Arrangements are being made to cope with a crowd of 8000 to 10,000. The trunk service -will be inaugurated the following day.
