AGAIN CRITICAL

SITUATION IN CHINA RESULT OF JAPANESE DEMANDS A SHOOTING AFFRAY (United Press Association—By Eloctrio Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 9th January 1.0 p.in.) TIENTSIN, ‘Bth January. _ The situation in North China is again critical as the result of Japanese demands presented to Sung Cheh-Yuan, chairman of the Hopei-Charar Council, for the arrest of fifty Chinese soldiers who allegedly ransacked a Japanese store and hauled down the. Japanese flag at Taku, and the dismissal of the commander of the Chinese troops and other officials in Taku; also the payment of compensation and the cessation of anti-Japanese activities with a guarantee that there will be no recurrence. Chinese circles fear that further demands will follow a shooting affray between Chinese and Japanese soldiers near one of the gates of Peking.
