Pipe-Major Topp’s ladies’ band, with visiting pipers, paraded the main street prior to the commencement of the afternoon’s proceedings and played several selections at the gathering. Throughout the programme, which was well organised and carried out with promptitude, keen interest was displayed in the piping and the dancing events. Margaret Oates (Wellington) won the Highlang Fling. MacKenzie piped for the dancing. _ Mr T. D. Milne (Chief of the Motueka Caledonian Society) at the conclusion of the programme, thanked the public ol Takaka for their support at the. gathering and the concert. The Society, he said, was a little disappointed that the total receipts for the day showed a slight loss to the promoters. Better support was necessary or there would be a danger of the Motueka Caledonian Society having to discontinue organising a gathering and a concert on tne 2nd of Januarv at Takaka. Mr Milne considered that it behove all Scotch folk to band themselves together by wav of Scottish or Caledonian Societies and Burns’ Clubs to uphold the traditions of their country and keep alive national customs. „ . Trophies and prizes won during the afternoon were presented, during an interval, by Mr T. D. Millie.
