FIRST WEEKLY SERVICE FASTEST LONG-DISTANCE (United Press Association— riy Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 6th January, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, sth January. The first weekly transatlantic air mail was inaugurated by Air France, a plane departing from Croydon for Santiago, via Toulouse, Dakar, Brazil, and Buenos Aires, 9365 miles, for which the schedule is four days, which .is the fastest long-distance flight in the world. The Atlantic will be flown with four-engined flying boats evolved after lengthy experiments. The mail service is the first step to a passenger service in which a seventeen ton flying boat providing sleeping accommodation, crossing tfls Atlantic in 15 hours, will he used. Miss Jean Batten sent a message to the undertaking wishing it good luck.
