ART UNION PROFITS
METHOD OF ALLOCATION BODIES DISPENSING RELIEF (By Tnlegrapn—Press Assor-iatioiii AUCKLAND, 18th December.^ In announcing the allocation of £4675 from art union No. 45 for distribution among various organisations, the Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, said he wished to emphasise that his aim bad been to see that the available profits of the art union were given to bodies dispensing relief to the less fortunate section of the community. The money would be distributed among these people who would not benefit' either from the special Christinas bonus to the unemployed or from the special grant lo the hospital boards. Thirtythree bodies throughout New Zealand will benefit. “Tiie organisations lo which the grants are being made have, under the existing conditions, been hard pressed to find the wherewithal to continue their benevolent work,” continued Mr Parry. “I hope tlie grants decided upon will be the means of brightening the Christmas season for many who would not otherwise be provided for, and every effort will be made to ensure that only they and not others helped from other sources mentioned will benefit from this distribution.” If it plight appear that South Island organisations were not participating in the allocation proportionately to the North Island, the sole reason, stated the Minister, was that ? within tlie class of bodies it was desired to assist, there were comparatively few applications from South Island organisations for grants from art union funds.
