Miss' Marjorie Sherris, of Christchurch, the tennis champion, whose marriage to Mr C. P. Beatson, ,of Nelson, will take place next month, was entertained at a tennis tournament arranged by her fellow members of the United Tennis Club and held on the club's courts on Tuesday afternoon. During the afternoon an unframed wall mirror was presented to Miss Sherris by Mr Andrew Burns, the chairman of tne tennis section of the club. : There was a large attendance.

■Mrs F. B. Christie, who has occupied a position on the teaching staff of the Auckland Point School since its formation, was farewelled yesterday afternoon on the occasion of her retirement. The presentation of a rug was made to the teacher by the chairman of the committee, Mr L. H. Bull, and tributes were paid.
