Women’s singles, semi-finals—Miss' “ Hartigan defeated Miss Nieholls (N.Z.j 6-3, 6-3; Miss Coyne defeated Mrs Hopman, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Mixed doubles, second round—Lindo > - and Mrs Betts defeated DonoliopYand ’“ Miss Nieholls, 6-3, 2-1, retired. Men’s doubles, semi-finals--Craw- Y» ford and McGrath defeated Ferguson Y?"? and Chrystal, 0-3, 8-6; 9-7; Quist and • Thompson defeated Hopman and Kav,‘ 'A n-0,7-5,7-5. ' Miss Nieholls started well against •} Miss Hartigan, the Australian .and (New , Zealand champion and .led 3-1 before , Miss Hartigan got her famous fore- • hand working smoothly. Miss'Hartigan ,' tl won five games in a row to win the set.
