That evening as it grew dark the chums met in Ted’s room in a rather doleful mood, for Richard had been away all day, and they felt that something dreadful must have happened to him. Now, as he had disappeared when it was dark, they felt that the best thing to do was to wait until night, and then watch outside the stockade. “For,” said Gwen, “if the man has hidden -him. some'where he will, probably, choose darkness to take food to him.” And so they waited for it to get dark enough to start the adventure.
