GENERAL ELECTION
MR ATMORE’S CANDIDATURE THEATRE ROYAL MEETING ON WEDNESDAY Mr Harry'.At mo re M.P., announces in our advertising columns that lie will opt-n his election campaign in the Theatre Royal. Wairnea street, Nelson on Wednesday evening next, 30th October, at 8 o'clock. Further details of subjects etc., will be given in to-morrow's issue of “The Mail” but Mr Atmore states be will give complete justification for the wording of his telegram which appeared in “’The Mail” of Friday last, by reading Lord Bledisloe’s letter. Part of the quotation from the latter’s speech at Christchurch runs as follows: “How few, people who speak of money, whether as the reward of service or the price of goods realise that if lias no intrinsic value in itself, but is merely a token or exchange ticket inj.be hands of a country’s consumers, that it originally came into use as a convenient substitute for the barter of goods and services for other goods and services, and that if and when it fails to fulfil this useful function owing to insufficiency, hoarding, or any other cause, its justification as an instrument of commercial equity ceases. The virtue of money is, in fact, to be found not so much in its amount as in its purchasing value, and if this is to be maintained on ail'equitable basis, the volume in circulation at any one time should be equivalent to the value of the goods on the market.” Mr Atmore announces that the dress circle will be reserved for ladies and their escorts. The Mayor, Mr G. L. Page will preside.
