PALMERSTON FIRE-BRIGADE ' FOUR CALLS IBy Telegraph—Press Association] PALMERSTON N., This Day. The Fire Brigade had a busy night answering no fewer than four alarms within six hours. At about 10 o’clock a. false call was received and taxis were also summoned to a call upon an astonished householder. The hoax was a mean and serious one. A second call was received by the brigade shortly after midnight to a minor outbreak in a large residence m College street, being quickly suppressed. At half past three the brigade was summoned by telephone to a large wooden dwelling occupied by Mr F. W. Franke, builder, of Albert street. The fire had a fierce hold and the house was gutted, all its- contents being destroyed. Mr Franke and his family were absent spending the week-end at the beach. The insurances are unavailable.
While the brigade was attending this fire another alarm was given by someone unaware that the brigade was already on the scene, with the result that another engine was brought out. CHARGE OF ARSON PALMERSTON N., Edward Bloomfield MeGi 111 lappeared before Justices' charged., that, on 28th October he committed arson by.'wilfully .setting lire to a housed 128 ■ College street. He was remanded till; 4,tb November. Bail w;is fixed, self in,£23o and two sureties of a like amount;
