DIAMOND WEDDING
MR AND AIRS R. C. TENNENT Mr and Airs Robert C. Tennent of Woodvilie, last week celebrated their diamond wedding, the occasion being marked by ri happy family reunion at the residence of Dr. and Afrs'P. H. Alules. There were 62 at the gathering comprising relatives from all parts of tlie Dominion including three sons, three daughtei'Sj 14 grandchildren and one greatgrandson. Both Mr and Airs Tennent enjoy rile best of health. Mr Tennent lias a unique association with the history of Rugby in New Zealand, because to him belongs the distinction of being the founder of the first Rugby football club in the Dominion, in Nelson. In this connection he was inspired by the late Mr C. J. Monro, of Palmerston North. Coming to New Zealand in 1854, in the ship British Empire, the Tennent family came to Nelson where Air R. C. Tennent joined the Bank of New South Wales. He later represented Nelson at cricket and football and was the champion mile runner of the province for three years. To-day at. the age of 86 his recreations include howling and walking, three miles a day being iris regular achievement. On tlie 20ith October, 1875, Air Tennent married Aliss Emily Boor, eldest daughter of the late Dr. Leonard Boor. The ceremony, which took place at All Saints’ Church, Nelson, was performed by the late Bishop Suter, Bishop of Nelson, the late Archdeacon Thorpe and the late Rev. Amos Knell, Rural Dean of the Wairarapa, whose widow now living at Greytown and in her IGOlli year, is an aunt of the bride. There were six bridesmaids—including three sisters of the bride, Airs J. P."Kempthorno, Airs 11. Burnett, and Aliss AI. Boor, all of Nelson, tlie two last-named being present at the celebrations.
