MAPUA BOWLING CLUB
OPENING OF SEASON A SUCCESSFUL AFTERNOON For the opening of the Mapua Bowling Club the weather was beautifully fine and a large attendance was present. Apologies were received from Mr K. J. Holyoake M.P., the Rev. A. M. Ferguson M.A., and the Wakefield Bowling Club, all wishing the club every success. The president, Mr X. A. White, welcomed the visitors, and also intending new members; and expressed thanks to all donors of apples supplied to Mr C. Higgs on behalf of the club, also the carriers and especially Mr C. Higgs for his, splendid efforts which resulted in over £32 being handed over to tlie secretary. Tlie Forster Cup, kindly donated by Mr 11. I*. Forster for annual pairs competition, was presented to tlie winners, Mr I*. Coufts and J. A. Stutchberry, the former acknowledging.
Representatives of the Nelson, Maitai, Richmond, and Motueka clubs spoke on behalf of their members congratulating Mapua, and wishing them every success, great pleasure being expressed that Mapua was again entering into tlie district competitions. The president called on Mrs J. A. Sladen, wife of the secretary, to throw up the kitty, this being followed by tlie first bowl delivered by Mrs T. A. White, wife of tlie president. A “toucher” was greeted with applause.. Thej president then declared the green open for the season 1935-36. Tlie games that followed were thoroughly enjoyed by all, a pleasant break being the dispensing of afternoon tea provided by the ladies who were accord, ed a very hearty cheer. The club wish to thank Dir La Frentz for his gift of a line-finder, this very generous action being much apreciated.
