VICTIMS OF TRAGEDY

FOUND DEAD IN TRAIN INQUEST AT SOUTHAMPTON (United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyrieht) (Received 23rd July, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, 22nd July. At the Southampton adjourned inquest a verdict was returned that John Keyes (24), a purser, murdered Emily Jarvis (24)’, and then committed suicide. A retired detective-inspector gave evidence regarding a previous case where a contracting finger on a trigger caused a second shot. The discovery of a couple found dead at midnight in a train each with two bullet wounds in their heart, led to a surprising theory at the opening of the inquest that the case might be one ol murder by a third person. The couple were John Keyes and Eimily Jarvis, whom Keves was reported to have wished to maiVy. She was engaged and refused to give up her fiance. An automatic pistol was found in the compartment, also an undischarged cartridge which did not fit the automatic. The coroner said if was most extraordinary there should be two bullet wounds in each case. The shock of having a bullet in the heart must have been awful. I cannot see how a man would have the power to pull the trigger a second time, lie said. “The possibility of a person entering the train at Waterloo and shooting the couple might be a ‘mare’s nest, but it will be necessary to adjourn the inquiries.” -
