The review*was unique as a Sovereign had not previously inspected the police. Despite showers their Majesties drove . - ;' in an open landau along the blue-coated line, among which plain-clothed Scot land Yard police headed by top-batted, morning-coated chiefs received Their 1 -’. Majesties with the Royal Salute, stand-" * ing at attention while the band played',', the National Anthem. Lord Trenchard, Chief Commissioner, led three cheers fpr the King after which Their Majesties 7 drove along the line and received . a--great ovation from a quarter of a mil-,;. - lion spectators. ' • THhe weather misbehaved for the first, time in the Jubilee celebrations when-' a shower accompanying the march" past forced Their Majesties tc retire to shel- - ter in the Royal pavilion " ' Pipers played the Scottish police past. Only ‘Ulster was not .represented, the riots necessitating all remaining on duty. * -
