RUGBY FOOTBALL SATURDAY’S MATCHES (From Our Own Correspondent) Senior: Huia 26, United 6. Dovedale 0, Wanderer 0. Junior: Wanderer won from Tikaokao bv default. United 27. Upper Alonere 0. Fourth Grade: Riwaka 16, Tui 5. Weather conditions were ideal on Saturday, wlien competition matches in all grades were continued at Rugby Park, which was in good playing order. In the senior division Huia defeated United by twenty-six points to six and Dovedale and Wanderer fought a hard and even contest without score. United gained an easy victory over Upper Moutere in the junior competition by 27 points to 0, and Tikaokao, owing to being unable to field anything like a full team, forfeited to Wanderer. The fouith grade match, between Tui and Riwaka was won by tile latter, sixteen points to five. SENIOR

HUIA V. UNITED The match between Huia and United was played on No. 2 ground. Huia kicked off facing the sun and lined in opponents’ 25. They again took charge from the line out and United forced down. A counter movement instigated by Ennnere took play to the other end of the field. Huia retaliated and steadily pushed United back on defence. 0. Luiin securing in a handy position gashed to the line for the opening score. Talbot converted. Huia 5, United 0. 'Midfield pay ensued for several minutes until Talbot kicked through, and quick following up caused United to force down. Lunn gained possession and sent out to Talbot, who booted and Kinzett relieved. From a line out Redmond took the ball to halfway. Huia again attacked from a movement commenced by Kelly, win passed to Hunt to Newman to finalise. Talbot’s kick failed. Huia 8, United 0. Huia secured from a scrummage in their own territory, and Taylor marked from a kick for Fry to clear. McCutchen and Strong combined to renew United’s attack, and, from a free kick, Kinzett succeeded in negotiating the bar. United 3, Huia 8. McCntchen, who was playing .a good game camp through again and United attacked. Lunn cleared out the opposition and play shifted to the opposite end, where Ricketts intervened and a five yards scrum was ordered. After the Huia backs had handled the leather United forced down. Half time sounded soon afterwards. On resuming Hunt (Huia) raced down the lined, Ennnere intercepted the pass and play returned to halfway. The Huia forwards broke through once more and Ricketts was called upon to clear. Lunn got going but a forward pass spoilt the movement. Although Huia were having the best of the scrummages, the ball often did not yet clean away to the backs as the half was inclined to pass too low. Huia continued to attack, and, from a passing rush Knapp to Bisley to Knapp to Lunn, the last named finalised a. nippy movement. Fry converted. Huia 13, United 3. A further effort by Waghorn, Hunt and Knapp broke down, an infringement by United, however, gave Huia a chance and Busch goaled with a nice kick. Huia 16, United 3.

United forwards attacked solidly and Knapp cleared. Midfield play was followed by United again breaking through and Lunn effected a fine save. The ball came up field, and from a scrum the Hum backs were set ir. motion for Talbot to score. Busch converted. Iluia 21, United 3. WANDERER In the match Dovedale versus Wanderer, the latter winning the toss, played with their backs to the sun and Dovedale kicked off. The ball was returned by Evans to McGrath, who found the line in Wanderers’ territory with a good kick. Dovedale forwards combining well broke away bub Wanderers were penalised for an infringement. .McGrath’s shot at goal fell short, and 11. Fowler and Askew were responsible for shifting play to mid-field. A spectacular dash down the line by K. Moigan resulted in his being pushed into touch within striking distance. Dovedale won the line out and C. Win. cutting through smartly, gained i-onsiderable ground before being overtaken by K. Morgan. Win’s gass went to W. C'owin, who was promptly grassed and Wanderers captured the lost ground. M. Fry led a rush to Dovedale’s line but G. Win effected a splendid save and with Ted Win in close attendance, sent the leather up field. Dovedale carried on to Wandeier’s line, where a force down took place before the spell ended. On resuming play Dovedale attacked strongly, but overeagerness led to their undoing and Wanderers, taking advantage of their opponents’ mistakes, swept down the field. Fry, Ingram and Buckeridge penetrated Dovedale’s 25, where Mason effectively countered the movement by finding the line. From the throw in the ball was sent to the Dovedale backs and erratic passing nullified a promising movement. J. Young staved off the attack temporarily. A chance to open Dovedale’s score was missed by V. Hawkes from a penalty end Askew returned. Wanderers broke through to the Dovedale line, where a force down took place. McGrath caught his opponents out of position with the kick-off, and, following up smartly, again secured possession to find touch in Wanderer’s territory. Passing among the Dovedale backs followed, but M. Fry once more proved a stubborn defender. In the closing stages Dovedale kept up the attack on Wanderer’s line but tile defence held, and the game ended without points being registered on either side. Mr Hi Rangi refereed the match.

JUNIOR UNITED V. UPPER MOUTERE In the junior competition. United defeated Upper Moutere by the large margin of 27 points to 0. The Moutere team fielded only twelve players at the commencement and plajed two short for the remainder of the game. A field goal by Anderson opened United’s account. This was followed by Grossman reaching the line for a try, which was converted by Cording. Dredge broke through and scored near the corner, making the total points twelve at halftime. On resuming Davey secured in a. forward rush and dribbled over. Mason’s kick failed. In a further attack Wratt, following up, smartly crossed the line and Davey conceited. United 20, Upper Moutere 0. Later Dredge potted a goal with a beautiful kick, and Crossman scored the final try. The match thus ended United 27, Upper Moutere 0. Mr D. Park acted as referee. WANDERER V. TIIvAOKAO Tikaokao juniors were unable to field a full team and forfeited to Wanderer. After the former had been supplemented by other players a friendly game was p'layr-d between the two teams. FOURTH GRADE In the fourth grade competition, Riwaka gained a victory over Tui by sixteen points to five. The.
