At Eastbourne in the England versus Australia practice match for the Davis Cup the doubles resulted: Quist and Turnbull (Australia) defeated Hughes and Tuekey (Britain) 3-6, 6-3, 8-6, 6-4. Turnbull was the best of the four. He served and smashed with savage accuracy. The Australians were , generally Superior in volleying and smashing. Tuekey, England’s new Davis Cup recruit, is playing much better with experience. lie is serving powerfully and his ground strokes have improved. The profits without Eastbourne, where the most seats have been sold, should approach £2OOO. Mr Wallis Myers in the “Telegraph” writes: “Eastbourne form does not mean that Perry will play the same at Wimbledon where he has previously produced centre court regenerations. The best Perry emerges on the right day. Nevertheless Crawford staged a game which even the best Perry would have difficulty in subduing. It was the Crawford of our dreams.”
