OBITUARY

MR H. P. SMALLBONE

The death occurred recently of Mr Harr* Percy Smallbone, at his residence in Karori, He was a native of Nelson, a son of the late Edwin and Frances Smallbone, a well-known pioneer family, and a brother of Mr E. Smallbone of Richmond. As a youth he joined the Eastern Extension Cable Company, as a cadet, leaving later to join tlie Nelson branch of the National Bank, and subsequently transferred to Wellington and Auckland. He opened the bank’s Gisborne branch in 1911. Under his management the branchy developed rapidly in importance, and at the time of his retirement on superannuation in 1927 the bank had a very fine modern building with a staff of twelve. Mr Smalboue was greatly esteemed by the bank’s clients, and had a great many friends throughout. Poverty Bay and elsewhere, who will learn of his death with regret. He was an active member of the Karori Bowling Club, and will be greatly missed by bowlers for his genial manner and disposition. Tie is survived by his wife, a son, Mr Harry Smallbone, of Levin and Company, and two daughters, Sister Smallbone, of the Napier Hospital, and Miss Ida Smallbone.
