NELSON LAMBS IN SOUTH ISLAND COMPETITION
JUDGE’S REPORT ON THREE BEST PENS The Nelson Freezing Company Ltd. has received a report in reference to the Nelson lambs shown in connection with the South Island District Lamb Competition. The judges’ full comments read as follows: “Nelson: A most interesting exhibit of lean, fleshy, and well shaped carcases. Somewhat weightier than Southland, nevertheless they showed many attractive points. As in other exhibits this year, there were a few carcases carrying an excess of external fat, rendering them somewhat unattractive to the butcher.
“In regard to the three best pens from your district, these were placed as follows :
“Ist Pen No. 22.—3 splendid little lambs. Full of meat and not too fat. Just right size for the Loudon trade. Ideal butchers’ meat. Weights, 301 b, 321 h, 321 b. (Exhibitor, 11. D. Patou). “2nd Pen No. 19. 3 exceedingly good lambs. Well shaped and full of meat. A good typo of lamb for the London market. Weights, 321 b, 341 b, 341 b. (Exhibitor W. A. Jessou). “3rd Pen No. 28. 3 very well bred lambs. Full of meat and not too fat. A very attractive, pen. Weights, 321 b, 32 lb, 331 b. (Exhibitor A. Newman).”
