MINING CLAIMS
FORFEITURE PROVED [By Telegraph—Press Association] DUNEDIN, 2,7 th June. The Warden, Air H. J. Dixon, S.M., gave Ins decision in an action in which J. S, Burrows sought decrees of forfeiture in respect of two or three claims held by the Molyneux Gold Dredging Company on the Molyneux River above Alexandra. The company is an English one with a capital of £250,000 and the claims were pegged upwards pf \two (years ago. Since that time the company has spent a good deal of money, and is understood to have let a contract for a dredge costing £40,000. The action was heard in March last and the Warden, giving his decision, held that there had been forfeiture, but in view of the special circumstances relied on by the defendant company, he exercised his discretion by inflicting a fine in lieu of forfeiture. The total fines and costs in respect of the two licences involved amounted to £3B 9s.
