NEW TELEGRAPH RATES

, INCREASED TRAFFIC AND REVENUE [By Telegraph—Press Association! AUCKLAND, 30th May. An intimation that the Government would not consider the reintroduction of the flat rate for telegrams was received to-day by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce from the PostmasterGeneral, who said that during the period from Ist April, 1934, to Ist January, 1935, telegraphic traffic, except Press matter, had’ increased by ' 0.52 per cent, in volume and by 2.1 per cent, in revenue. These figures bore out the ’ Department’s contention that the altered rates were adjustments rather than, increases of charges. , After discussion during which the Cliief Postmaster, Mr J. P. Clouston, enumerated ways in which the telegraph service had been improved, the chamber decided not to press further • for revision to the old basis, and to express its appreciation of the wider facilities now provided.
