BRITAIN'S INTERNAL TRADE

NOTABLE ADVANCE “Britain’s internal trade has made a notable advance in recent times, said Sir Robert Horne m Ins speech at the annual meeting of the Gicat Railway Company. Industnal outp increased in 1934 by 12 per cent. oyei 1933, and in the manufacturing industries alone, it reached the highest figure ever recorded, being li per cent, greater than in 1929. Although our exports showed a substantial - crease over the year most of the increased output was absorbed _ within our own country. Can our internal market continue to expand, or has it reached saturation point? I am ot opinion that there is still considerable room for expansion, and, provided that we remain calm and steadfast, and do not give way to silly panics, the flnancial position is so sound, and tnerc is so much work to be done in this country; that it should be some time before' we have readied the limit of immediate development. If this be so, there should be increased traffics for the railways.
