OFFICERS FAREWELIED

NELSON MENTAL HOSPITAL , A largo gathering representing the nursing and general staffs of the Nelson Mental Hospital, met at the Main Hospital building at Stoke, to bid farewell to the Medical Superintendent, Dr. B. I). Hart and Mrs Hart, and to Mr and Mrs G. H. Menzies.

Dr. Hart leaves to take up the position of Medical Superintendent at the Auckland Mental Hospital, while Mr Menzies has been promoted to the position of■ Receiver at tlie Head Office of the Department in Wellington. Dr. J. J. Crawshaw, on behalf of the staff, made a presentation to each of the officers and their wives, and expressed regret at their departure. '■ Dr. Crawshaw made reference to the very high degree of efficiency which Dr. Hart had maintained throughout the institution, and also congratulated Mr Menzies on the excellent manner in which he had directed iiis i side of the Department, in his capacity of clerk and storekeeper. Mr F. B. Thomas on behalf of the non-nursing staff, endorsed the remarks of the previous speaker, and wished the departing guests every success in their new positions. Mr McDonald, Head Attendant, added the good wishes of the nursing staff, to the remarks made bv Dr. Crawshaw. and Mr Thomas. In reply Dr. Hart extended ids thanks to the various speakers for their _ remarks, and to tlie staff for their gifts. He stated that it would have been Impossible to have reached and maintain- ■> ! the present standard of efficiency, without the loyal support of an _ excellent staff.' and it was with mixed feelings that he took ids .doparinve. Mr Menzies in ids reply thanked the staff for their presentations and also for the support which had always been accorded him. He said that he and Mrs Menzies would carry away with them pleasant memories of their stay in Nelson, and their associations with the Mental Hospital staff. ' During the evening were rendered by Miss Taylor and Mr and Mrs H Dickinson • elocutionary items Miss A! G. McMillan, and a humorous sketch by Messrs Ashton and 0 Malley. Mrs Crawshaw officiated at the piano. - Following supper a very enjoyable dance was held, for which the music was supplied hv Air Harold 3\ llligms and Mr Aynesworth.
