A meeting, of the delegates from various cricket clubs in the district was held at the Brightwater Hotel on Saturday evening for the .purpose of selecting a team to proceed to Wellington to play the annual iiiterprovlhcial match. Eighteen players were nominated,, and a ballot for the eleven resulted in the election of the following:—Messrs S. Fowler, Cooke; Pocock, R. Satchell, Hoclder, L. Pattie, J. Silcock, Humphries, Richardson, Dr. C. Satchell, and Wigzell. The following were appointed emergency men in the order named : Messrs Lines, Collins. W. Arnold, A. Dencker, and Wix. The match will be played, if possible, on Friday. A. meeting of Volunteer officers was held at the Drill Shed on Saturday night to discuss matters in connection with the Easter Encampment. There was a large attendance'of both town and country officers, including Di-s'. Boor, Coleman and Fearless. It was stated that the probable number of volunteers who would attend the camp would he 820. This does not include the West Coast, or Marlbovdugli’ Volunteers. The former applied to the Government for the use of the Stella to' convey them there, but this request was refused. There are three good corps on the Coast, namely, at Greymouth, Hokitika, and Kumara, and .it is to be hoped that they will be able to make some arrangement with one of the steamship companies for conveyance here. The Marlborough Volunteers have not been in a flourishing condition for some time past, and ‘cannot be counted upon to be present, although a few of them may possibly turn up. After a long discussion it was decided to call for tenders in Nelson for providing uncooked rations, and to advertise in the Nelson, Wellington and Wanganui papers for the right to the canteen.
