FREE FIGHT
IN BELGIAN PARLIAMENT LABOUR DEMONSTRATION BANNED PROTEST BY SOCIALIST DEPUTIES (United Press Association —By Eieotrie Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 20th February. “The Chronicle’s” Brussels correspondent says that the Government’s decision to prohibit a big demonstration planned for 24th February led to a free fight in Parliament. Socialist deputies rushed and punched if. Bovesse, Finance Minister, in the face. Ten ushers leaped to the rescue and the whole house immediately joined in one of the biggest uproars the Belgian Parliament has ever known. M. Vandervekle, Socialist leader, declared that the prohibition amounted to the provocation of the working class. M. Theunis, Premier, defended the Government’s action on the ground that the Socialist press and speakers had given the proposed demonstration an insurrectionary note. He reproached M. Vandervekle for using two languages, one for Parliament and tlie other for meetings, adding that audiences were being daily incited against the Government.
The Socialists are preparing a 24hour general strike as a protest against the prohibition.
