MEN COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE

CHRISTCHURCH, 19th February. Eight charges of breaking and entering dwelling houses and committing theft were preferred in the Magistrate’s Court to-day against Walter Albert Speer, aged 24, and Walter Bell. aged 30. The value' of the stolen property, accoi'ding to the estimates of witnesses, was about £650, and the total value of the goods recovered was about £l5O.

The accused had made statements Vo t'ue police admitting the offences. They said they were oir relief work and were hard up and in need of food and clothing for their wives and children. The accused pleaded guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
