ESCAPE OF GANGSTERS
SHOOT WAY OUT OF POLICE TRAP MACHINE GUNS USED (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK, 20th January. Two gangsters, believed to be Alvin Karpis and Harry Campbell, the last survivors of the gang, which kidnapped- Mr Bremer, the Minneapolis brewer, last year, shot their way out of a police trap in Atlantic City, New Jersey, to-day and escaped in a stolen automobile, although possibly both were injured. The police learned that the two men were hiding in a hotel near the boardwalk of the famous watering place and surrounded the building, but by blazing away with machine-guns the gangsters managed to hold the officers hack until-they reached an automobile at the kerb. Two women companions were arrested, one of them slightly injured.
