SMALLER NAVIES

CONTROLLING THE SIZE FRENCH NOTE TO AMERICA (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright) (Received Bth January, 1.35 p.m.) PARIS,' 7th January. The Government has sent a Note to the United States, with copies to Britain and Japan; suggesting that maritime countries which have not signed the Washington Treaty should participate in a naval treaty replacing it, as it is desirable to control the size of smaller navies; also no one should feel that they were left out in the cold. It is expected that the text of the Note will be published after M. Laval’s conference with Sir John Simon.
