TAHUNANUI TOWN BOARD
BUSINESS AT FORTNIGHTLY MEETING
At the meeting of the Tahunanui Town Boar;d held in the Town Hall last evening there were present Messrs M. O’Sullivan (chairman), C. Chamberlain, J. Logan, A. Stagg, J. T. Radford, W. G. Tiller and T. W. Roberts.
The chairman before commencing the business said how grieved all members were at the death of Mr L. Ingham, who for so many years had taken an active part in Town Board affairs and he moved a sincere vote of sympathy to the relatives. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect. Accounts amounting to £147 9s lid were passed for payment. A letter was received from the Nelson City Council in regard to the Duke of Gloucester’s .visit. It was decided that the Board’s name he incorporated in the welcome to the Duke of Gloucester and that the chairman represent the Board on the platform at the civic reception. It was decided to write the Highways Board intimating that the Town Board could not entertain the thought of spending the sum of over £2OO as its contribution to the eliminating of the camber of the Rocks Road. Mr Robins is to be allowed to put in a pipe in the water table leading to his garage to the approval of the Works Committee. The chairman, iq discussing the question of further work on the Cliffs, op the Tahunanui side, stated that he would got an estimate from Mr Lynch for cost of same.
It was resolved to write the Unemployment Board stating that the Town Board cannot afford to subsidise, and that if it cannot do new work with the Relief Workers under No. 5 Scheme, the Board will have to do without the men altogether. The chairman in bringing up the question of safety of the footpath through the Reserve in Bisley Avenue, said the members had viewed it and considered that there was a fair margin of safety.
It was decided that the Hall Committee meet for the purpose of formulating the caretaker’s duties. Mr Roberts moved that 'the Works Committee go ahead with the work of the footpath outside Weller’s in Eduaul street and procure the necessary material. The motion was carried.
