ASSAULT ON RIVAL
YOUTHFUL GROCER’S ASSISTANT i FINE OF £fio IMPOSED (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A fine of £f)o, in default six months’ imprisonment, was imposed by Mr Justice .Johnston in (the Supreme Court on Trevor Lyall Evans; a youthful grocer’s assistant, w T ho committed a serious assault with, a stick on the manager of a rival grocery establishment in Beckenham.
Counsel said that robbery was not the motive. Evans’s shop, hail 1 ' been meeting with keen competition from the Self Help store and Evans' had brooded on this; and other matters,; It was purely with tlie, iiiteujiion of' retaliation that he visited the Self Help store. He took a stick with' him, hut covered it 'with rubber, so that he would do the man no lasting, harm. .
