GAS COMMITTEE’S REPORT
RENOVATION OF OLD CONTAINER
EXPENDITURE OF £7OO RE COM. MENDED
The report of the Gas Committee to last nights meeting of the City Council contained a. recommendation for an expenditure of £7OO in repairing the old gas holder.
Councillor H. E. A. Washbourn asked it the committee considered the expenditure would be justified m view ot' the probable developments in electricity.

The renovation of the old holders would provide a valuable standby and tide over those times when there wore in the demand. Councillor V ashbouru asked: “Is consumption going up?” The Engineer: “No.” Continuing he said it had been found that nearly every main in Halifax street was. leakiim and there was no jloubt leakages would he found m other! parts of the town if the mains were lifted; The renovation of the old holder was necessary -for the economic working! of the plant and to help the supply during changes in the demand brought about by such circumstances as sudden changes in the weather.
Councillor Watson said an additional holder was necessary. If that was provided it might overcome such trouble as was recently experienced. .The renort was adopted pending a supplementary and more detailed report being received
