CONTROL OF BOXING
(To the Editor)
Sir,-—I read with interest in last evening’s “Mail’-’ a letter written by the president of the Nelson Boxing Association to Mr F. Waide re the nomination of the two Nelson boxers at the New Zealand Boxing Championships. My letter published in your paper on last Saturday night was not answered, tut I presume that last night’s publication was meant as such. The president in his letter to Mr Waide states that owing to certain circumstances over which the secretary and matclilhaker of the Association had no control, it was not possible to send the boys to the i\ew Zealand championships.. Is it because the Nelson Association is not a properly constituted body or perhaps not affiliated with the New Zealand Association? It would be interestin'" to know these facts. The general idea in Nelson is, that the Association forgot to nominate ths. boxers after having told them that they would be competing. If this is (he case it shows that the Nelson Boxing Association committee should not lie holding their positions. If they did forget to nominate the Nelson buys, surely the nomination of two outsiders would have jogged their memory. In my opinion the Nelson Association have fallen down on their job badly, and their failure to make known tile' facts why Mr Waide and Mr Barker were not nominated shows the public of Nelson that a new body ol men is wanted on the local committee. Trusting that this letter may make them a little less secretive.— I airtj etc., “FAN.” Nelson, 27th September.
