W.D.F.U.

WAKAPUAKA BRANCH There was a fair attendance at the monthly meeting of the Wakapuaka branch of the W.D.F.U. Mrs A. Whitwell presided and members read the Women’s Creed. One new member was enrolled. Mrs Whitwell feelingly spoke of the loss both the relatives and branch have sustained in the death of Mrs Dodson, and members stood in silence for a moment in sympathy with the relatives. An invitation -was received from the Korere branch to their birthday party. It- was decided to have a Christmas party for the children of the district, and arrangements were made to raise funds for that purpose. Dancing assemblies are now being held to raise funds for the Community Chest. Mrs Whitwell reported on the provincial executive meeting, and arrangements made _ for the garden party in October. The roll call, an article costing not moro than 6d and sold for Is, was well responded to, and the proceeds helped to swell community chest funds. The singing of the N.Z. National Anthem closed the meeting.
